The Dresden Files - Dragon’s Hero Daughter
When Disney made Sleeping Beauty, there is a very singular reason the Dragon is named Maleficent. There is an actual dragon, and the film was a ‘polite’ insult at her expense. She wasn't terribly thrilled with it, especially as it was an announcement of her daughter’s christening. Or when one would happen if she were Christian, Maleficent’s daughter had just turned three. Mal (Malice in this version, but she took the masculine Mal over the expected ‘Alice’) and her mother lived on the California coast. Fae dragons whose clan are signatory of the accords.

Mal is a fae dragon, known of their impressive control of magic and not just for vast reserves. They have a family history of being temperamental and destructive in the dark ages, Mal’s mother was severely injured in a fight and has been keeping to easy living. Cults and worshippers sacrificing themselves and loved ones only. Mal, however, is a 20th century girl. She's more interested in living her own life and not learning lessons far outdated from her millenia old mother. At one point she met a girl who seemed a lot of fun, and a little reckless… but she was fun. Maybe she'll look her up one day.

Now, you might have noticed Mal was born in the 50s, Dragons age normally into puberty, and then slows until they reach maturity (once their magic is strong enough). She turned fourteen in 1970. She'll be 17 soon, in 2018. Fae Dragons don't reach adulthood until almost a century and a half has passed. Naturally she has dragonfire and an impressive will, as well as the ability to take human form. In fact, she isn't quite able to turn into a full dragon right now. Puberty thing, don't press her on it. She picked up this rebel thing in the 80s and hasn't let it go, not wanting to eat the innocent, having friends, pesky human things. She also hasn't let go of painted leather, but that's more of a personal choice.

Marvel/DC Superhero settings - Heir to the Gnarled Staff
A handful of villains were discovered that, upon capture, they had children. Which lead the government to a moral dilemma. Are the children guilty of their parents crime, is their freedom worth the danger their upbringing presents? Eventually a halfway house was devised, a way to let them have some freedom, but keep an eye on them. Curfews and check ins and rules about when and how to use their powers. As well as a few children of heroes to help keep them on the straight and narrow.

The Auradon House has three sets of kids now, the hero kids (Ben, Audrey, Jane, Lonnie, Doug), the reformed villain class (Mal, Evie, Carlos, Jay), and the new class (Harriet, Ginny, Freddy, the Gaston twins, and Anthony). The hero kids police both groups, and the reformed kids help to… mediate disagreements since they speak both languages. The new class is still not quite there yet, at accepting another path. All of them are some level of skilled at evil, in various ways. And they get into trouble fumbling into things where they have to fight.

Kingdom Hearts - The Dragon Princess
A long time ago, before Sora left his island there was an evil fairy, who was not as alone waiting for Aurora as one might assume. While her minions could not find a baby, she had met a man and had a child. Mostly this was an inconvenience, but as she waited for her minions to bring her the heart of a pure princess she taught her child how to use her dark powers.

It passed the time. And as the little girl gained power, someone burst into her room. A strange knight in blue armor, with a large key. This told the unnamed princess of more worlds, beyond the end of the one she lived in. She visited other worlds when her mother was away, making sure to return home before her. She met other children, in other places. Slowly but surely.

But Maleficent decided on new goals, and started to try and mold her daughter into the right tool for the job. A heart capable of wielding a keyblade. Sadly Maleficent was not capable of getting Mal made a successor while all the keyblade users were dead or missing. Although the wicked fairy wondered how love had made its way into her daughter's heart under lock and key in her home. No matter, Maleficent focused on better plans, stronger plans. Plotting with the other villains and her daughter was mostly a nuisance and a disappointment. And that stayed true when Maleficent found a boy who could gain a keyblade, a boy the age of Mal. Mal hated him, and when her mother found the princesses... Mal escaped.

And Mal was free, free to explore the dark corridors and use her time to find her place. Maybe see what mischief she could get into. She might not be the dark keyblader her mother wanted, but she was more than capable of taking care of herself.

Buffyverse - An Unusual Slayer
One girl in all the world, chosen to hold back the darkness and evil in the world. Until some peppy thing in California broke that and made every girl, in all the world, that could be a slayer awaken. All across the globe power was taken by every one who could take, one such girl was the daughter of a witch. The kind of witch most people would want to see crushed by a house. A few times.

Mallory and her mother have a... complicated relationship, sure her mother had been the terrifying thing that Disney made into a monster long ago... but she was still mom. So mom was weird, and didn't seem to have a job, and had so much money, and servants who didn't seem to have much in their heads... but she got Mal art supplies, and permanently turned Mal's hair purple, and you know, is Mal's mom. It was only when Mal was a teenager, and discovered a boy, who made her question things, did it start to fall apart. And when Mal became a Slayer, well... she and her mother's disagreement rocked the house to the foundation.

Mal didn't kill her, a spell backfired and her mother vanished. Mal left with her boyfriend and her friends to figure out what Mal would do next...

Harry Potter - Daughter of Darkness
'He who must not be Named' might be the best known of dark wizards, the most feared, and most mentioned without his name being spoken. But he is not the only wizard to abuse the dark arts. Maleficent Magdalena Carabosse was one of the worst, and she managed to avoid the Ministry for a long time, long enough to raise her daughter for ten years. However that was the year that the Ministry finally caught up with them and took the evil woman in, for her crimes against wizards and muggles.

And that left Malvina Bertha Carabosse on her own, alone, in the world. Sure she had her mother's old castle and plenty of gold in her vault... but nobody to call friend except for a street rat named Jay. She was started at Hogwarts when she turned eleven, expected to be sorted like her mother, Slytherin. She and her friend weren't, both she and Jay were sorted Gryffindor. The younger Slytherins were alienated by her sorting, and the Gryffindors were not going near her with her heritage. Save a handful a bit more trusting than smart.

The school had... concerns, teaching her. Given what her mother had done, and what her mother could do. Maleficent was an unlicensed animagus of terrible ability, and Mal seemed to carry her mother's natural green flame when conjuring fire. She was constantly losing her house points by disobeying rules and defacing parts of campus, helping the ghosts create mischief and harassing the house elves. All in All, she was a terrible student with a great deal of skill.
