(OOC: Maya is still a fairly new voice, so I am looking more for adventure, gen, silly things. I would say anything that lets Maya snark but that is everything.)
[Well, every school has to have an urban legend, right? And at least this one isn't scary on a level that'd actually upset people, it's just silly, right?
Maya being here is just a formality, it's what best friends do. They talk, they eat lunch together, they sit at the bay window together and they hunt for ghosts together.]
I'll bet it has three heads. Or a tail or something weird like that.
*It was cute how Riley believed in stuff. Usually. Mostly. Look there are better ways to spend time than hunting ghosts. They could be shopping, or learning an important life lesson. Or study- okay, maybe this was the best choice tonight.*
Or it looks like an old groundskeeper in an excessive Halloween costume?
[ She's practically bouncing on the balls of her toes as the two girls make their way down the school hallway. Of course she is. This is usual, but she seems to be exceptionally bouncy today as she grabs onto Maya's arm. ]
Maaaaaaya. Do you think this year will be the year? I think it will.
[ The list never ends. It only gets longer and longer and longer. But at the affirmation she kind of lets out a soft 'YAY' of delight and tugs on Maya's arm more. Impossibly more. ]
I cleared off part of my picture wall. There's a space for a team photo right in the middle. There's going to be one in there, Maya.
[Congratulations, it's your lucky day! There's this lovely, two foot tall, purple dragon that is JUST as inspired by art as you are, Maya! She's not crazy. She's not hallucinating. He's really here. Tangible!
And he's taken over the empty halls of your school, one claw covered in orange paint, the other covered in green.
He's also already "repainted" half the hallways and classrooms by the time she comes across him. As of right now, despite the paint on his claws, there's bursts of magic that come from them that splatters polka dots of paint along the lockers.
And then he sees her and he just lights up, all smiles. Flutters a little off the ground with tiny orange wings.]
[And then instead of a two foot tall dragon, there's a two foot tall mouse. That's just how these things are.
This is a very, very insistent mouse though. She's trying really hard to drag Maya after her, small paw clutching Maya's hand.]
Come ON, they're going to catch up!!
[Nrrrg... and this little mouse is totally a bad influence, as she just stole a new, kids sized coat from a shop, which is bundled in her arm. The pink one she's wearing has become horribly tattered. Ernest is going to be so mad at her.
Sorry, purposeful or not, Maya, this mouse has made you an accomplice.]
Why are you so slow?? You're as bad as Ernest! [She drags Maya around a street corner.] This would be easier if you could climb walls! ...Maybe we can slip away into the sewers...
*See, normally stealing is a thing Maya hasn't got too much trouble with. And Maya doesn't need a lot of pushing to do bad things. It's the tiny mouse bit that's got her dumbstruck.*
I can't exactly move at top speed being dragged by a tiny mouse. And most of the buildings have ladders on their walls.
So let go, and why are you stealing coats anyway? Especially ones way too big.
[She shoots Maya a look as though she doesn't believe a word she's saying. Alright.......... she's gonna let go. But she's not having much faith in Maya's ability.
She scurries over a coupling of trashcans and hides behind for a moment, but keeps a lookout.]
Do you think I want one like this?? [She holds the jacket out with both paws, nose wrinkling in disgust before she bundles the jacket back towards her, perturbed.] I don't want this! But it's all the I have to work with! This isn't the place I was supposed to end up! I don't know you people! You're not bears! I don't understand!!
[She squeaks softly after her tirade and pushes the new jacket over her mouth, hoping she hasn't drawn too much attention with her shouting.
Sorry, Maya, she really doesn't realize that she isn't making a whole lot of sense.]
*Someone is staring at her. She can't think of why. Admittedly Maya's got a lot of things she doesn't know the answer to. Like everything. Still, the staring was a problem. Not huge, but a problem.*
*So she'll wander on over. And with her sweetest smile.*
Hi...
*And then with a lot less sweetness there is collar grabbing and staring down, she remembers how to do that.*
[He tenses up when he's grabbed and he curls up pretty instinctively, trying to make himself smaller, less threatening, less noticeable. That is an awful lot of fear in his eyes, and he's grabbing her wrist.]
[He wants to twist, kick, get away, get away, get away-]
[Riley's friend, RILEY'S FRIEND.]
I know you!
[Just blurt out the first thing, good job, Hiro..]
*And she lets go of him at that, mostly out of the surprise. He wasn't in the memory she had. So... maybe she should ease off on the threatening. Yes, the threatening is the only memory she has, but it doesn't seem right now.*
You do? That makes one of us.
*Still, her expression is very clearly 'business.'*
*Maya isn't sure what she did wrong, but that goes hand in hand with having no idea what you're doing. She liked Josh, she liked Lucas, and she liked Riley. A different part of her got all weird thinking about each of them, thinking about accidentally holding hands, about not so accidentally kissing them. But only one of them was kissing her, and that one was now terrified and hiding under the blankets.*
At least you're not trying to run away from your own room right now...
What did I do? What did I say. I can't tell what's wrong when I can't see you.
*Okay sometimes she could but it was easier when she could see her better half.*
[She's just taking the moment to become one with her bed. Maybe if she stays still long enough Maya will forget she's there. Maybe she can hide under here for the rest of her life. No one would notice, right? It seemed like a plan. She was glad she didn't see her, though, because she had to close her eyes at the upset tears stinging them.]
I can't kiss you again.
I don't want you kissing Lucas.
[Wait.] I mean.
I got really mad because I didn't like the idea of you kissing anyone else. And that's wrong and I'm sorry. Now please let me go to bed, I'm suddenly down with the plague.
Okay now you're not making any sense. Who am I suppose to kiss if you won't do it and you don't want me kissing Lucas?
*Maya's first thought went to Uncle Boing, but she didn't mention that because there is no way that would help. Riley was being a different less fun and less endearing weird than normal and she wanted to fix it.*
Oh. Well, if you have the plague clearly you and anyone you've come into contact with should be quarantined for the safety of everyone. So I guess I'm sleeping over.
*Maya does climb off, and sits on the bed next to Riley, looking at where her goofy head is under those covers she has.*
Look, you can tell me to go and I will, but you can also ask me to stay. And I'll tell you I'll never kiss anyone that isn't you. If that's what you want. Because even if you tell me to leave nothing you can say or do will get rid of me and I will be back here in the morning like always.
[Talking about Josh definitely wouldn't help. And as much as she admits she's too afraid of saying too much and scaring Maya away entirely. Because this is scaring her. So much so that she squirms slightly under her blanket when Maya suggests sleeping over. That was the opposite of what should happen when she has a plague, she wants to squeak, but Maya's last words pierce her ears and she...
Finally tosses back the blanket to look at her friend with wide eyes.]
I don't want you to ever leave, Maya. [It's said all too quickly, too afraid she might leave? Because Riley's making this weird.] I just got... jealous hearing you talk about it. I don't know why. I--I want you to kiss whoever you want Maya, I do, but then I'm like no I want you to kiss only me? And I'm being really selfish--I--
[She wants to say yes she wants to hear Maya say she'll only kiss her, but that's too selfish for her to admit so she bites her lips and looks away. At least she doesn't hide again?]

*Normally this would be weird beyond words. And it was. But she thought about what Riley would say to this and it seemed... nope, still weird.*
What the?
no subject
You don't like it? I thought this place could use new color to it.
no subject
*This was the best (snarky) explanation Maya could give to this situation as it was. She added a shrug.*
I dunno, the hallway was already colorful enough, just it wasn't very entertaining before now.
